Frogs Spawning
Sometime around mid-March, the frogs wake from their Winter hibernation at the bottom of the pond.
They come up into the warm sunshine, and celebrate the onset of Spring.
All these photos were taken in the frog pond my garden.
There are 6 frogs in this photo.
They are not very easy to see, as they are quite well camouflaged.
Frogs have a special place in myths and stories.
The best known frog story is the Frog King. It's the first story in the Grimms' collection of fairy tales. It was afforded first place in the collection because they believed it was one of the oldest.
A Princess 'accidentally' (it's really an act of fate) drops a ball into a pond or stream, and the frog helps her to retrieve it. Eventually the frog turns into a Prince, and they all live happily ever after.

I love frogs! :)
ReplyDeleteThey all look very happy and photogenic frogs, clearly benefiting from your benevolence.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo you have entered in the Gardening Gone Wild contest for this month. It made me give a little shriek (really) of joy when I saw it. Perfect! Nice to discover your blog, and keep up the very interesting work!
ReplyDeleteFrogs do have happy smiling faces, don't they. Like Kermit.
ReplyDeleteMind you, if I'd spent the past four months, lying in mud, at just above frezing, I think I'd be feeling very happy to see some sunshine.
And they've got all their froggy friends to celebrate Spring with too.
Very cool! I'm fond of frogs, though I don't have any in my suburban garden. But I still remember a visit to an open area 2 years ago, and the concerts of the frogs during the full moon nights.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I love this post! Cute, cute photos. I have always liked frogs. As the mother of three boys who liked to catch such critters, I have some fond memories of frogs.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhh the romance!
